New Year, New Mom: What Goes Into a Mommy Makeover

Mommy Makeover

The new years are when we set goals for ourselves and how we want to seek improvement in our lives for the upcoming year.

Often these goals involve goals related to our physical appearance, whether it be gym goals, committing to a proper skincare regime, or a bold new hairstyle. When it comes to recent mothers, a common goal is to return their bodies to the way they had been before their pregnancy, and some are seeking cosmetic surgery to reach those goals.

A survey conducted by Baby center revealed that 61% of recent mothers planned to return to their pre-pregnancy state by the first birthday of their newborn. However, the same study showed that 60% could not meet these expectations.

While the cost of a tummy tuck in Toronto and other major cities is no small financial feat, the procedure is finding itself increasingly undergone by women as part of a group of procedures known as the mommy makeover.

What Is a Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover is a collaborative term that refers to multiple cosmetic procedures combined into one surgical period. By combining these procedures, a patient can save time, surgical costs, and risks that come with repetitively being put under anesthesia for individual surgeries. The main benefit of a mommy makeover is the expansive range of issues it can help treat at once.

While a person doesn’t need to undergo every procedure, a “full” mommy makeover usually includes:

  • A tummy tuck
  • Liposuction in multiple areas of the body
  • Breast augmentation
  • Breast lift

Fat transfers (to increase fullness in areas such as the breasts or buttocks)

Additional procedures can be performed to maximize the procedure as well, such as:

  • Cellulite treatments
  • Stretch mark reduction
  • Laser hair removal
  • Labiaplasty

Who is an Ideal Candidate For a Mommy Makeover?

Despite the implications of the name, you don’t need to be a mother to undergo a mommy makeover, as many people face the same bodily conditions such as loose and sagging skin, cellulite, and unwanted fat collection. Anybody with these conditions can benefit from the procedure, even men.

While the men’s procedure is referred to as a “daddy do-over,” the procedures like tummy tucks and liposuction still apply while also introducing procedures that help men feel more masculine. This can include procedures like male breast reduction to reduce “man boobs,” and hair transplants to restore thinned and balding hair.

However, there are a few things to take into account to be considered an ideal candidate for a mommy makeover. First, the body must be fully recovered from childbirth or weight fluctuations, and usually, this takes about six months, or whenever the tissues have healed in full.

Secondly, a patient must be deemed to be in good physical health and relatively close or already at to their ideal body weight, as any major fluctuations of weight gain and weight loss can undo the process of the surgery. Weight loss, for example, can make the skin looser.

Finally, while not a requirement, a patient should consider whether or not they have any more children before undergoing the procedure, as going through childbirth again can undo the effects of the procedure, such as stretch marks and loose skin.

Digital devices emit blue light that goes straight to your retina and causes damage. Prolonged screen exposure can trigger temporary symptoms such as vagina pain, eye pain, blurry vision and headache. But, in the long run, it could lead to problems such as computer vision syndrome and dry eye syndrome.
